A lot of entrepreneurs and small businesses come across difficult obstacles on their journey to establish and expand businesses. Fundamentally, there needs to be a balance between the long term vision of where your business will ultimately end up and the short term processes and steps to get you to that place.

When businesses evolve, such as launching new products, new services, pivoting the business direction or taking new staff on, the processes used need to evolve too. Too often, businesses feel the need to dilute their products or services and entrepreneurs begin to compromise on their ultimate goals.

When we sense this happening, we need to catch ourselves (and our businesses), and recalibrate where we are, where we’re going and how we’re going to get there. If you’re stuck down in the core processes and day-to-day business structure you need to listen to what’s happening around you and take stock of whether that's helping you reach your target or not. Similarly, if you’re always looking out on the horizon of where you’re going you might not see the important details that are being overlooked.

These changes become even more imperative when you have others working with you on projects and everyone isn’t always on the same page. People may be listening to their own ideas of where projects need to go and neglect the common purpose. By performing this process together everyone focuses on the same agenda and a more united front is established.
